What is Yoga Therapy?

"Yoga Therapy occurs when a Yoga Therapist sees an individual or group with the primary aim of addressing a physical, mental or emotional health issue, based on the principles of yoga practice."

Yoga therapy is both a preventative and a curative process.

The Yoga Therapy Clinic benefits a wide range of conditions including: arthritis, asthma, back pain, cancer, diabetes, depression, digestive problems, fatigue, hypertension, heart disease, menstrual problems, respiratory problems and stress.

The Yoga Therapy Program for ailments

The program for ailments begins with an assessment of the participants by the therapist to identify realistic goals to be set and what the key focus should be. Some of the benefits that typify the

Yoga Therapy Program are:

· Help the participant understand which practices are contraindicated and why;

· Assist the participant to better understand the possible benefits and limitations of yoga therapy in the management of the ailment;

· Encourage the participant to accept the importance and benefits of regular yoga therapeutic practice;

· Improve the participant’s ability to reduce mental tension and stress and to rebalance the flow of prana;

· Create an environment of support and trust during the program;

· Provide a range of suitable hatha yoga practices- pranayama, asana, meditation and relaxation that can be easily approached by the novice participant;

· Help the participant understand that yoga is not a “quick fix” to a specific medical condition but that regular practice can induce equanimity and this will allow them to make positive decisions about their health and well being.
